মিছে হাসি মিছে বাঁশি মিছে এ যৌবন,
মিছে এই দরশের পরশের খেলা।
চেয়ে দেখো, পবিত্র এ মানবজীবন,
কে ইহারে অকাতরে করে অবহেলা!
ভেসে ভেসে এই মহা চরাচরস্রোতে
কে জানে গো আসিয়াছে কোন্‌খান হতে,
কোথা হতে নিয়ে এল প্রেমের আভাস,
কোন্‌ অন্ধকার ভেদি উঠিল আলোতে।
এ নহে খেলার ধন, যৌবনের আশ--
বোলো না ইহার কানে আবেশের বাণী!
নহে নহে এ তোমার বাসনার দাস,
তোমার ক্ষুধার মাঝে আনিয়ো না টানি!
এ তোমার ঈশ্বরের মঙ্গল-আশ্বাস,
স্বর্গের আলোক তব এই মুখখানি।

YOU SEEMED from afar
titanic in your mysterious majesty of terror.
With palpitating heart I stood before your presence.
Your knitted brows boded ill
and sudden came down the blow
with a growl and a crash.
My bones cracked,
with bowed head I waited
for the final fury to come.
It came.
And I wondered, could this be all of the menace?
With your weapon held high in suspense
you looked mightily big.
To strike me you came down
to where I crouched low on the ground.
You suddenly became small
and I stood up.
From thence there was only pain for me
but no fear.
Great you are as death itself,
but your victim is greater than death.

মেছুয়াবাজার থেকে
     পালোয়ান চারজন
পরের ঘরেতে করে
     জঞ্জাল-মার্জন।
          ডালায় লাগিয়ে চাপ
          বাক্সো করেছে সাফ,
       হঠাৎ লাগালো গুঁতো
                    পুলিসের সার্জন।
কেঁদে বলে, 'আমাদের
            নেই কোনো গার্জন,
       ভেবেছিনু হেথা হয়
       নৈশবিদ্যালয়--
নিখর্‌চা জীবিকার
            বিদ্যা-উপার্জন।'
